The Program

The Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business (LCOBA) at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø has established a scholarship program to assist Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø business students with their study abroad endeavors. Scholarships are offered for approved study abroad programs.  The Study Abroad Scholarship Program is administered by the Study Abroad Scholarship Committee, comprised of professors of LCOBA and the Study Abroad Advisor at the Center for International Program (CIP).

Eligibility

There are currently 2 different scholarships available:

First State Study Abroad Business Scholarship
Applicants for the First State Study Abroad Scholarship must (a) be pursuing a business degree at LCOBA, (b) have attained a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0 after completing the sophomore curriculum, and (c) be seeking financial assistance for a study abroad program. The committee also considers additional factors in its decision about awarding scholarships.

Steele Study Abroad Scholarships.
Applicants to the Steele Study Abroad Scholarship Program must be full-time business majors who (a) have been accepted to Langdale College, or (b) have a GPA of at least 2.0 on a scale of 4.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 on a scale of 4.0 for graduate students. The committee also considers additional factors in its decision about awarding scholarships.

Awards

There is a single application for both scholarships.  One student per calendar year will receive the First Bank Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.00.  All other qualified applicants will receive the Steele Scholarship, the amount of which will vary depending upon the number of qualified applicants and the costs of the study abroad programs.  Previous awards from the Steele Scholarship fund have been approximately $1,000.00, but future awards may be more or less.  Students may apply for the scholarships again in subsequent years.

Application and Selection of Recipients

Interested students must complete the following application, supply all documentation requested, and return it to Dr. Zulal Denaux, HSBA 3024, by 5 p.m. on the last Friday in January. Banner online transcripts are acceptable. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. All information received is treated as confidential. Additional information may be requested. Submission of an application constitutes the applicant’s agreement to accept the decisions of the Study Abroad Scholarship Committee as final. Students may reapply for a scholarship each year that they meet eligibility requirements. The Study Abroad Scholarship Program reserves the right to review the conditions and procedures of this scholarship program and to make changes at any time, including termination of the program.

Payment of Scholarship

Scholarships are paid in one installment before the due date for the final payment of the particular study abroad program chosen. Scholarships are not paid directly to students. If a scholarship is awarded, the amount awarded is sent directly to Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø Study Abroad Programs at the Center for International program. Then, the amount awarded will be credited to each study abroad program’s account under each student's name. If for any reason a student must withdraw from a study abroad program after award of one of the LCOBA Scholarships, the funds may be withdrawn from the student’s study abroad account at the discretion of the Study Abroad Chair.
