Students have access to more pathways for supporting their mental health including 24/7/365 access to counselors, online self-guided mental health support tools, free telehealth visits and more. These services in addition to the support from the Counseling Center, will help to meet you where you are on your journey to better your mental Health.

Your Mental Health Resources

On-Campus Counseling: 229-333-5940

Provides 6 free and confidential short-term, solution-focused individual therapy per semester. If a student requires more intensive services to meet their needs, assistance with connecting the student to providers is offered. Group therapy and couples’ therapy is also provided.

24/7/365 Support Line: 833-910-3365

The 24/7 line offers immediate licensed clinician support, regardless of your location and is able to connect you to no cost therapy though a telehealth or face-to-face therapy provider for up to 5 visits per issue per year. The support line is equipped to help with:

  • Access to clinical support at all times
  • Personal assistance with support options, including help with off-campus referrals and appointment follow-up
  • Risk assessment and triage
  • Emergency response
  • Identifying students of concern
  • Reporting

Common reasons that students call include:

  • Feelings of anxiety, depression, or stress
  • Relationship problems or worries
  • Grief and loss
  • Help with coping skills
  • Support between therapy sessions or while waiting to see a therapist

FasPsych provides Virtual Psychiatric Prescribing Clinics. These Virtual Prescribing Clinics will include a pool of providers delivering psychiatric assessment and medication management services via a secure telemedicine behavioral health platform, with an e-prescribing, electronic medical record component.

Mental Health Training

Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR) are the three simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. It doesn't take a health professional to prevent suicide - you're qualified! Sponsored by the University System of Georgia's Mental Health Initiative, QPR training is available free to all students, faculty, and staff within USG. The 1.5-hour training session includes didactic instruction, role-play exercises, and time for questions. 

The Office of Health Promotions and Wellness offers on-campus QPR training.

 

Most of us would know how to help if we saw someone having a heart attack—we’d start CPR, or at the very least, call 9-1-1. But too few of us would know how to respond if we saw someone having a panic attack or if we were concerned that a friend or co-worker might be showing signs of alcoholism. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a skills-based training that teaches you to identify and help someone who is presenting a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. The evidence behind the program demonstrates that it builds mental health literacy, helping peers identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness. Studies also have shown that the program reduces stigma by bridging the social distance created by negative attitudes and perceptions of individuals with mental illnesses.

The USG continues to offer MHFA training online for faculty, staff, and students.

6 hours of instructor-led online training

Our working lives can have a powerful influence on our mental state and, as leaders in a demanding and high-pressured world, it is essential that we develop the confidence and competence to identify individuals at risk and intervene in an appropriate and effective way.  The aim of this 1-hr session is to help you to recognize signs of concern and respond appropriately.
