VALDOSTA — Hanna Marie Yeager of Hahira, Georgia, is the recipient of the Fall 2022 President’s Award for Academic Excellence for the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø.
The President’s Award for Academic Excellence is presented to a high-performing graduating student in each of Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø’s six colleges — Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business Administration, College of Nursing and Health Sciences, College of the Arts, James L. and Dorothy H. Dewar College of Education and Human Services, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and College of Science and Mathematics.
Yeager will be recognized during Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø’s 234th Commencement at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, on the Front Lawn. She will graduate summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Health Science and an Honors College Certificate.
“I knew long before graduating high school that I wanted to attend Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø, a decision that would allow me to receive an excellent education and go through unforgettable experiences in the town that has built and shaped me into the person I am today,” she said. “While I would like to say this was an easy feat, I know I could not have achieved this without hard work, dedication, and the unwavering support of my family, friends, and community. I have been challenged both in and out of the classroom, but I am fortunate to be a part of this uplifting community, which I have been able to lean on for strength and encouragement through it all.”
As a student at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø, Yeager completed the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative program and the QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training program. She was a Zell Miller Scholar and an Honors Scholar. She earned repeated Dean’s List honors and was active with Baptist Collegiate Ministries and the Wesley Foundation.
Dedicated to serving others, Yeager had the privilege of attending the 2020 South Georgia Chrysalis, a three-day worship, prayer, fellowship, creative expression, recreation, singing, and discussion event. She returned the following year to support and encourage youth and young adults throughout their unique chrysalis journey.
Yeager plans to continue her education at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø and pursue a Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Administration.
“Through the knowledge and experience I gain through this program of study, I hope to aid in the quality improvement of the administration and outcomes of healthcare in any facility that I might have the privilege to work for in the future,” she said.
Yeager attends CrossPointe Church in Valdosta, Georgia. Her supportive family includes dad J.D. Yeager, mom Pam Yeager, and grandparents Belinda and Don Yeager.
