  • Total Credit Hours: 120
  • Degree Format: Traditional

About this field

The communication degree is the degree for the 21st century. Many groups recognize its importance in both academic and business circles. Employers in particular are seeking graduates who can create and work within the organizational setting and coordinate social media. We offer the only Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the Nation and minor programs in Health Communication and Communication.

We offer two emphases within the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Communication, Interpersonal Communication and Organizational Communication. Each of these programs offers you the opportunity to develop skills that employers are seeking and unable to find. According to National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), nine of the ten skills an employer looks for in new employees are communication related.

Your communication degree will develop your skills in each of these areas along with an understanding of intercultural communication. So, you have selected a marketable degree that will give you flexibility in what you will choose to do..

The Valdosta State Difference

There are many strong points to our program. Among them are strong faculty and student interactions. It is not unusual as you pass through the building and see faculty talking with students in offices or just chatting in the hall. Faculty are genuinely interested in what you are doing and your progress toward graduation.

We also have excellent facilities. We just moved into a newly renovated area for all our communication classes. Computer labs, classrooms, faculty offices, and study space are all in the same building. This close proximity for all the area resources has improved the already strong connection between students and faculty.

Finally, we make sure that your educational experience transcends the classroom. Many of our classes have projects that involved the campus or local community. You can also take advantage of studies abroad and internships. These opportunities provide a break from the traditional classroom and helps you build your portfolio.

How do we know we are successful? Just look at our alumni. We have a strong placement rate and our alumni stay in contact with us. We regularly have alumni return to campus to talk with students and meet with classes to share their experiences. We view this alumni relationship as a strong advantage to our program.
