About this field
Marketing professionals are responsible for promoting products and services, while keeping in mind the needs and desires of their customers. All types of organizations need to market themselves and their products and services, and as a result, opportunities abound for marketing majors. Students in the Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø marketing program develop a number of skills and become experts in the areas of problem solving, planning and forecasting, research and analysis, and persuasion. Marketing majors also hone their people skills and become effective communicators.
The Valdosta State Difference
The marketing program at Valdosta State is part of the university’s highly regarded Langdale College of Business. Class size in the marketing department is small, with an average of just 28 students per class, and students have the opportunity to interact with the department’s distinguished faculty. Marketing students gain invaluable experience in the classroom through innovative courses such as marketing research, in which students are paired with local companies and develop a business plan that includes a marketing strategy. Outside of class, students may participate in Students in Free Enterprise, a prestigious national organization, and top students may be invited to join Beta Sigma Gamma, an international honor society for business students. Students also can participate in Valdosta State’s Co-op Program and complete independent internships in the field. Marketing students are encouraged to take advantage of the business school’s annual four-week, faculty-led trip to Germany that incorporates coursework with site visits to major German companies.
